Editor (32-40h/wk)

Are you passionate about investigative journalism and eager to help expose corruption, financial crime, and abuse of power in Europe? Follow the Money is looking for an editor to strengthen our editorial team, starting in October.

Who we are:

Follow the Money is a radically independent news outlet for investigative journalism. Our mission: to uncover the truth in the interest of society. We achieve this with in-depth investigations on diverse topics, such as health care, climate change, the financial sector, and the defence industry. You can read more about our mission here.

As an independent investigative news outlet, we uncover the financial flows shaping the continent. With the world changing rapidly, we need all hands on deck to scrutinise those in power and ensure transparency, with compelling stories that engage a wide audience. 

What you do: 

• As an editor at Follow the Money, your focus will lie on editing long-form investigations. Occasionally, you will also edit short news stories. Your editing is to the highest standards, with attention to impact, accuracy and narrative.

• You will collaborate with a team of editors, reporters, researchers, and illustrators to shape and finalise stories for publication.

Who you are:

• You are able to manage your own deadlines and set appropriate deadlines for writers. It’s your task to make complex subjects accessible to a general audience.

• For this job you need an impeccable command of English and extensive editing experience. 

• You are a true team player with excellent communication skills. 

• You are available 32-40 hours a week and able to be at the office in Amsterdam on a regular basis.

Bonus points if you:  

• Speak a second language, preferably Dutch, French, or German.

• Have experience working on cross-border collaborations.

• Have a solid understanding of the European Union.

What we offer:

• We follow the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for the Publishing Industry. This position is classified in salary scale 3, with a maximum salary of €5.721 gross per month based on a full-time (40-hour) work week. Your final salary will depend on your education and relevant work experience.

• 25 vacation days based on a full-time employment contract.

We’re proud of our lively editorial team in Amsterdam, with Vondelpark at its doorstep. We also have an office in Brussels. As part of our international team, you get the chance to work together with journalists and media from across Europe, working on the frontlines of European investigative journalism.
